Live Weblogger journal

So what's with this whole blog thing anyway?

Why do I do this and who is it for? I wouldn't dare call this a journal because anything I would write in a journal I would most certainly not make available to the whole world. But if it's not a journal... A web log? A log of what? When I think of a log, I think of those charts in the bathrooms at Walmart that keep track of who last cleaned the toilets or replaced the paper towels. No, this is not a log.

Maybe I was wrong about the whole journal thing. Maybe what I think of as a journal is really a Diary. And this is like a public Diary-- a journal. Stuff that's not so private that it has to be hidden under my mattress, but not so important that I have to tell every person I see. Grrr, why do I bother...

So yeah, I'm pretty sure you are in my class, right? Who else would be reading this? I mean, I have totally been reading your blog, so don't get all freaky on me. I'm probably the only one who has written a jillion entries. I'm such a nerd.

Below: Where are the others? I think I should transfer to some obscure midwest christian college.

"I want to walk through the galleries of the renovated MoMA and hear your comments on this piece or that.

I want to find that little diner just off broadway and eat a bowl of soup with you.

I want to get lost in Central Park again with you.

I want to take the subway to china town and take you back to that great italian dessert shop on mulberry st.

I want to sit in a broody cafe in soho and write poetry, real honest to goodness poetry as you sketch the world around us.

I want to teach you chess on a cement bench in the middle of some tree lined park.

I want to take the train home late at night with your head asleep on my shoulder."

One of these days. Libby

Background!!

Thanks to Ms. Jen, I finally got the background in. This is what I had to do:

It wasn't working to put the background-image and all it's attributes in the linked css file, so I put background="./images/pic.gif" right in the body tag of the main index and then in the head tag (also in the main index) I put a start and end style tag with background-attachment: fixed. That seemed to work. Oh, and I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but the example I used had ./ in from of the image source and so I put that and it worked.

Thanks for those references Ms. Jen. Now the only problem is that I used that same trick above in all the indexes for category page, individual entry page, and date-based entry page, but those pages still don't show the bakcground. Grrr. Any suggestions?

Web Design link

I came across this web design company that has done some pretty cool sites. I really liked the feel, colors and style of the sites they do. Plus, most of the artists they design for have links to other sites that are good-- it just keeps on going and going.

A cool site I came across in exploring deeper was Vintage Vantage. They have some pretty funny stuff. Some is sort of iffy and wierd, but generally cool stuff. Not that I even wear vintage shirts, I guess they are just fun.

I still can't figure out how to get the tiling background on this page. It's really annoying-- I feel like i've tried everything. I gotta get the banner smaller-- i decided its just too huge. I think i'll go from 900x300 to 800x200. Or something. Yeah, that's all.

Total Choice What?

So I have trying for the last week to refine my site style what not, blah blah. But, when I make any changes, I can't see them for at least 12 hours. So all I can do is change a couple of things, and come back at midnight. I hate that.

I emailed totalchoicehosting to find out what's up, and this is all they said:

"Hello,

Network problem seems to be the case or else it would not allow you to update anything. Do get back to us if the problem is persisting. I will look into it.

Please let me know if I could be of any further assistance
----------------------------------------------------------
Regards,
Jacob Vergis
Technical Support"

So yeah, i'm still having the problem, but i'm so sure Mr. Jacob Vergis is going to rework the network just for me. The problem must be on our end.

Boys

A good friend of mine is going through "being single" pains. I can definately identify with her. We were talking about a guy friend of ours who is really just one of those green slash white flags. He isn't necessarily out of our league, but because he is so definately a green flag and nearly all of his qualities are great, he seems too good to be true. The sad part of the story is that he is taken. Ah, such is life. The only hope we have is that he himself assured us that there are other good guys out there (even if they all live in the mid-west).

So we just have to take singleness one day at a time. I would say that 85% of the time I am glad to be single. In all practicality, I just wouldn't have time to be a good girlfriend these days. I hardly have time to call my best friend. So yeah. Boys are great, but great boys are taken. God has my great boy taken, it just doesn't look like it yet.

ps. Ask me about the flag system-- it's really quite interesting.

Tutorials

While looking for help in order to get my tiling background to show up, I came across the the W3Schools website. It is chalk-full of helpful tutorials and good examples. It's like the CSS pocket reference only for everything website related-- i.e. HTML, CSS, Javascripting. Anyway, I still haven't figured out how to make the tiling background image show up, but this was neat nonetheless.

Africa

My mom moved out of our house this last tuesday. It's so weird to not be home when you move. What's weirder is that one day we will come back to the house. She suggested that by the time she returns from her mission trip six years from now, she will move back into the house, turn the garage into livable space and live there, while me and my theorhetical husband live in the main house. That's too strange to contemplate. Not now please.

Her flight is on November 14th. Ahhh! Nigeria, Africa! I can't wait to visit her. I can't believe she's leaving for Africa-- it's finally happening. I will really miss her. I wonder what the time difference is. Sadness and Joy all at the same time.

Rain

I love the rain! It's the first real rain in something like 83 days. At least that's what they said on the news. I love the smells and the sounds. Now it feels like fall. I think I am going to put on some of my favorite christmas music right now and just enjoy this moment.

I wrote this about rain:

"There are few times that such a gray sky is so inviting. Everyone looks up to see this new scenery int he air, this blanket that brings with it the joy of a cool breeze and sprinkles of water on your nose. Then close your eyes. WE all breathe in that musty wet asphalt and pine needles. The ground opens up to release a treasure of scents that are such a treat. Windows and doors fly open to soak up the fragrance. Ahhh, the first rain of autumn."

Being sick is no fun

I finally got in to the health center. I have some problem in my ear that is causing me to feel really dizzy all the time. They gave me some motion sickness meds to help with the dizziness and some drops for my ear. The only problem is this: listen to what some of the side affects are for the motion sickenss medication:

Some people may experience dizziness, blurred vision or drowsiness from this medication.

Right. That sounds *good*. Could I really be taking medicine that enhances my problem? Dang.

So I'm off to some museum in fullerton. Yay for G.A.P.

Ms. Jen

Ms. Jen is a cool teacher. She is kind of crazy and random and makes fun noises when she imitates other people talking. She has purple in her hair. She is a great Web Design teacher. She has a blog-- it's fun and she puts lots of random pictures that she takes on it. I like her little dog scruffy-- Cute!!

Let me just say how darn satisfying it is to figure things out. I love the rewards of being patient and persistent. Jen makes us figure things out on our own. Thanks Ms. Jen. I mean, look at this! I set this all up and figured it out (with help, of course) and it's just so cool.

Shockwave Portfolio

Check out my Shockwave portfolio site. I wasn't so into the assignment to create a site using Director, but it turned out pretty rad. The drawings of the little people on the site are my favorite-- I saw a random drawing on the table in class one day and I modifed the body and have been obsessed since. Sarah 9 liked the little people too so she draws them all the time too, only with a little round body instead of square. I like them. I should animate them. That would be fun.
