Act 2, Scene 3
Isn't this the part in the story when the main character, with the half-genuine smile, goes into the bathroom, rinses her face with cold water and then spends a couple of long minutes looking at the reflection in the mirror asking herself, "What the hell am I doing here?"
Then it usually goes one of two ways: Either she breaks the trance by grabbing a towel, drying her hands and putting the smile back on, or she packs her bags and doesn't leave a note.
I wish there was another alternative.

If she stays, she stays out of fear of being alone or out of loyalty to the people she's around. If it is the latter, then those people should be worthy her loyalty. In which case she can trust them to handle what she's feeling; she shouldn't feel as though she has to smile when all she wants to do is cry. If she stays out of fear, then may I suggest that she pack her bags and try her luck. There's a big world out there and it's ready to show her some incredible things. I have a feeling she's braver than she thinks.
